Two of my soap moulds had a slight disagreement with the dishwasher.

Fortunately, I have plenty more!

I haven’t made any cosmetics for ages, but while I was spring-cleaning the Shed I discovered that I had almost all of the ingredients that I needed to make a few things.

So, I’ve placed an order with Gracefruit, for some exciting new fragrances and the few ingredients I was missing. As soon as they arrive, I’ll be rustling up some bath melts, lip balms and body lotions.

Not quite what I had in mind…

Earlier this week I was given some medication.

I experienced a bad reaction to it, and this is what I have to take to make me feel better, until the original medication wears off again.

Prednisolone

I wasn’t expecting to be on steroids and antihistamines for the rest of the month, so please excuse me if sewing progress is limited for a while!

Mystery Feathers…

Mystery Feathers

Last week, when it wasn’t snowing, I found these feathers lying in the street close to my house. I can’t work out what bird they might belong to.

They don’t belong to the Egyptian Geese, which had been my first thought.

Then I wondered whether they’d come from the Red Kite that I often see circling above the houses. That seems more likely – if he’d tried to prey on something that had fought back, he could easily have lost a few feathers in the process.

Does anybody else have any ideas?

Snow Day!

A snow day’s pretty exciting in the south of England, and seeing as I had to go out in it anyway, I figured I might as well take the camera with me.

If the slideshow embedded above doesn’t work in your browser, you can also see all of my snowy photos on Flickr.

Playing House

Yesterday we went on a little shopping trip, and I bought these from John Lewis.

Measuring cups

Contrary to appearance, they’re not ceramic mixing bowls – they’re little measuring cups!

Several years ago I decided that I wanted my kitchen to look like this:

It’s the “Playing House” range by Rosanna, which is now sadly discontinued.

I do have one item from this range – and typically, it’s the one thing that isn’t in the picture.  I have a set of four ceramic tumblers, made to look like vending machine cups. (You can see a picture of them here, at Mighty Foods.)

As with the little measuring cups above, I liked them because they confront your expectations about what size an object should be, or what material it should be made from.

Also, they’re cute!

I have a long way to go before my kitchen looks like the one above, but I’m working on it slowly.

British Design Classics

On Friday I did something that I’d never done before – I bought a Special Edition set of stamps at the Post Office!

The series is British Design Classics.

There are ten designs – the Spitfire, mini skirt, Mini (car!), anglepoise lamp, Concorde, the K2 telephone kiosk, Robin Day’s polypropylene chair, Penguin book covers, the London Underground map and the Routemaster bus.

My local Post Office didn’t have any special presentation packs left, so I simply have a sheet of ten first class stamps.

I don’t quite know what to do with them now! They look so lovely all together on their little perforated page that I’m quite reluctant to separate them. And I’m certainly not going to use them to send a letter!

Having said that, I am quite tempted to buy or make some interesting envelopes, and use the stamps to post ten letters to myself…

I’d like to try something along the lines of Harriet Russell’s Envelopes, but I’m not absolutely convinced that all ten would find their way back to me!
