Here’s an action shot of the tartan jacket that I showed on the dress form the other day. There are a few more over at Flickr.
The inspiration came from a knitting pattern which was basically one enormous rectangle, with sleeves attached. I decided that I was far too lazy to knit a piece that large, and applied the principle to fabric instead. This jacket is basically one big square, as I only had two metres of fabric to play with. If I’d had more I would have made the fronts longer, so they could be draped over the shoulder.
I’d really like to develop this pattern. I can imagine a lovely snuggly version in polar fleece, a lightweight summer version in a soft organic cotton jersey, and a really glamorous evening jacket in flowing silks. Watch this space…
This is really incredible. It looks great while also being comfortable and versatile. I’d love to see what it looks like from the back and the side, too.
Thank you, I’m glad you like it!
There are some other views on Flickr, but I haven’t posted any of the back yet. I think I have some though, so I’ll upload them when I can. 🙂
