Nicola came to visit yesterday, to try on the mock-up for her wedding dress. Thankfully it all went very smoothly, and tomorrow I can start cutting silk! She also came bearing Christmas gifts, which turned out to be a bag full of Rowan Colourscape Chunky. The colourways are designed by Kaffe Fassett, and mine is [...]

Last night I started knitting the Slither gloves, from Knitty.
Today I will mostly be unravelling them, and starting again. Wah!
(I made a mistake right at the beginning of the stripes, dammit.)
The pattern is marked as “tangy”, which is not really very complicated in the great scheme of things. The particular difficulty with this pattern is [...]

In this case, having your photo taken wearing the latest hat and scarf that your girlfriend’s just knitted.
Paul’s not mad keen on having his photo taken, but he agreed to let me snap away just this once, so I could have a fabulously manly picture to show off the hat and scarf sets.
These hats and [...]

Well, okay, not yet they’re not.
But those are the plans for this little pile of goodies from Colinette:
Isis, shade Summer Berries - 100% viscose chenille type
This one’s going to be a plain scarf, I think. It’s pointless trying to work a stitch pattern in chenille yarn, and the velvety soft finish should be interesting enough.

Yes, it’s that time of year again!
I’ve worn my woolly hat and scarf two or three times now, which makes me wonder whether there are any of you out there with cold heads and necks… or maybe you have a chilly friend or relative who might appreciate a nice woolly Christmas present?
So, Hand Knit Hats [...]

Yes, I know I wasn’t talking about socks. But the second stripy silk sock is being re-knit at a pleasantly fast rate, so I feel a bit more friendly towards them now.
And then, this morning, Issue 47 of Simply Knitting dropped through the letterbox. Not only does it contain a free calendar which features a [...]

These are the silk socks from Simply Knitting Issue 43. Yes, they’re still going!
The first sock, now completed, has two mistakes in it. Well, okay, three if you count the fact that it’s at least two inches longer than my foot.
The second sock… well. Let’s just say that this little heap of curly unravelled silk [...]

Today I had a Day Off. I didn’t sew anything for anyone, I stayed in bed and read a good book, and I sat on the sofa and began to knit a new cardigan.
Oh, and my credit card may have accidentally fallen down in the general direction of some new wool.
My copy of Rowan magazine [...]

This morning, Issue 46 of Simply Knitting magazine dropped through my letterbox. I was a bit distressed to begin with, as I have so much wool and such an enormous backlog of knitting magazines to read that I almost didn’t want to see anything else that I might want to knit!
Thankfully this feeling soon passed, [...]

This week I seem to be absolutely drowning in wool. Not that this is any kind of complaint, you understand!
A friend of mine was having a clearout of her yarn stash, and kindly passed on a few goodies that she thought I might like.
These are two sock yarns. The purple one is by Opal, and [...]
