Feb 9th, 2009 by Claire
You will need:
5 x 100g Rowan Colourscape Chunky
1 pair 6.5mm needles
6.5mm circular needle, 40cm long
cable needle
Finished jumper measures:
Chest 40″
Length 19″ from shoulder to hem
Sleeves 19″ from seam to cuff
This is a baggy style of jumper, with no waist shaping and dropped sleeves. If you’d like to make it longer in the body or the sleeves, you’ll need more wool!
Sleeve 1:
Cast on 58 sts
Work 20 rows in 2×2 rib
Then switch to stocking stitch, and work cable pattern as follows:
- k24, p2, k6, p2, k24
- p24, k2, p6, k2, p24
- as row 1
- as row 2
- k24, p2, c6f, p2, k24
- as row 2
Repeat these 6 rows until you run out of the first ball of wool!
Sleeve 2:
Work as for Sleeve 1, but c6b.
Front:
Cast on 70 sts
Work 20 rows in 2×2 rib
Then switch to stocking stitch, and work cable pattern as follows:
- k46, p2, k6, p2, k14
- p14, k2, p6, k2, p46
- as row 1
- as row 2
- k46, p2, c6f, p2, k14
- as row 2
Repeat these 6 rows a further 11 times
(You can repeat more than 11 times for a longer jumper, but you’ll need more wool!)
Work 4 more rows in pattern
Cast off all stitches knitwise.
Back:
Cast on 70 sts
Work 20 rows in 2×2 rib
Then switch to stocking stitch, and work cable pattern as follows:
- k14, p2, k6, p2, k46
- p46, k2, p6, k2, p14
- as row 1
- as row 2
- k14, p2, c6b, p2, k46
- as row 2
Repeat these 6 rows a further 11 times
(You can repeat more than 11 times for a longer jumper, but you’ll need more wool!)
Work 4 more rows in pattern
Cast off all stitches knitwise.
Making up:
Sew shoulder seams together, leaving enough room to fit your head through!
(If you want a wide cowl neck, leave the neck opening fairly wide. If you want a narrower polo neck, you can sew the neck opening smaller.)
Sew sleeves to body at shoulders, matching cables with shoulder seams
Sew up side and underarm seams
Polo neck:
Using the circular needle, pick up all cast off stitches around neck
Make sure you have an even number of stitches, divisible by 4
Work in 2×2 ribbing until you’ve almost run out of wool!
Cast off all stitches knitwise.
