Here they are, the final pair of prototype shoes. Made in earth-toned colours, as requested, this is a very heavily interfaced crepe-de-chine. The lining’s a gorgeous bright orange, and the copper coloured ribbons are a perfect match. I’ve started getting some feedback from my shoe testers, which has thankfully been pretty consistent. It looks as [...]

Photos © Fairysteps Oopsie, I might have had a little PayPal accident over at Fairysteps. Ren was making some pretty things from the same leather as my lovely handbag, so it would have been rude not to buy the matching purse, surely? No sooner had I popped it into my shopping cart than there was a [...]

Today I would like to both praise and curse my friend Rhona, for being an extremely bad influence. At the beginning of July I’m going to London for a three-day weekend with friends. Being London, and being July, I expect it to be excruciatingly hot and stuffy. (It’ll probably rain now.) In order to try and stay [...]

I thought these might be an improvement on the teeny-tiny strawberry shorts, but they’re not. They’re bunchy between the legs, the satin bias tape is stiff and horrible, and the elastic’s all rolled up inside the casing. Very disappointing. I was hoping that these would work in the organic cottons, which are a similar weight to quilting [...]

I walked past my local branch of Hobbs yesterday, and spotted this lovely pink dress in the window. Then I came home and looked in my wardrobe at my pink party dress, which has a very similar keyhole-and-knot detail on the back. Now I don’t need to covet the Hobbs dress, and have thereby saved [...]

I went to their website, just to have a look, you understand, and discovered that the Rochester Rafael boots were now half price. Even better – there were several colours left in my size! After [...]

I started clearing out my sewing Shed this time last year, by organising all of my unruly haberdashery into these handy cardboard boxes. (I bought them from Muji, years ago.) Then the roof blew off the garden shed, so a few things moved in to my Shed for safe keeping. And then we had the [...]

One of the dangers of working in a fabric shop is that you collect fabric. Lots of fabric. Ideas, plus staff discount, equals a Shed full of fabric that I’m probably never going to use. So, this is the ten carrier bags that Paul and I cleared out of the Shed last week, and took [...]

Now that the honeymoon’s booked (hooray!), I’ve started to think about what I’ll need to take with me on our trip. We’ll be walking around the city all day, and we’ll be carrying heavy cameras, so I need a comfortable bag to fit everything into. This is a bag that I have already – a [...]

Remember when I told you that McCalls 5433 was going to be my perfect summer wardrobe? Well, here’s my first summer shirt! The fabric is a lightweight quilting cotton – a vintage piece by Rose & Hubble. The print is called “Rosy Days”, and it looks a bit like an old-fashioned quilt. Inside the circles [...]
