…McCalls 6164!
I saw a couple of incarnations of McCalls 6164 over at Gigi Sews, and couldn’t believe that this pattern had passed me by. I’m a huge fan of 80s-style pouffy sleeves, so I couldn’t resist grabbing the pattern and sewing view D, which seems to have the most ridiculous sleeves of them all.
The fullness [...]

Butterick 5260

This little dress is the first time in ages that I haven’t made a single alteration to the pattern as I was going along. I simply cut out the pattern, cut out the fabric, and sewed it all together according to the instructions. Very unlike me.
It’s Butterick 5260, view C.
The dress is much longer on [...]

Vogue 2787

Remember the dress I made for the Vintage Vogue competition?
The deadline was today, so yesterday after work Paul and I rushed out to take some pictures. This is the one that I sent off to accompany my entry.

Vintage Vogue

I think this is going to be my entry to the Vintage Vogue competition. I’m not 100% certain whether it’s finished, or whether the seams go on the inside or the outside. I’m going to wear it and live with it for a bit before I decide. I also need to take lots of photos, which [...]

Silk summer dress

As promised a couple of days ago, here’s an almost-finished Burda 7808. Just the hand-sewing and thread-neatening to go, and then it’s done.
As it turns out, I followed the instructions more than I expected to - although there are a few things that I’ll change next time. I added extra gathering to both the front [...]

Incapable of following instructions

This is Burda 7808.
(Information now only available in German, since the English site has merged with Burda Style and all the patterns are gone. *sigh*)
I bought the pattern yesterday because the weather’s gone mad, and I’m going to need some kind of loose summer dress so that I don’t inadvertently boil inside my own skin. Now [...]

That’s more like it.

I spent yesterday afternoon developing the prototypes I made on Saturday - in fabrics that I’ll actually wear.
The top is a pink tartan cotton and viscose blend shirting. I added sleeves, although they didn’t turn out quite how I meant them to. I was intending to make floaty butterfly sleeves, but these have come out [...]

Summer Outfit

This week’s been a pretty hot one, as far as weather goes in the UK. I’m sure most people are thrilled to bits (in fact I can hear them all outside, laughing and enjoying their barbecues in their gardens), but unfortunately for me, I’m really not very good at hot. I get sunstroke very easily, [...]

Dotty Dress

This is incarnation number two of McCalls 9456. (Here’s the first one.)
As you can see, this is a knee-length version with short sleeves. The fabric is a viscose/cotton jersey which is just hovering around the edges of being too fiddly for me to work with. It’s very light and drapey, and even using the differential [...]

Corduroy and Velvet

This weekend I’ve been sewing the waistcoat to go with the Dorset buttons I made last Sunday. The pattern is McCalls 8285, and the fabric is a sage green cotton velvet. It’s almost finished - I just need to make the buttonholes, and sew a little silver buckle onto one of the straps at the [...]
